Love the use of the chain against the backdrop, fracturing the orderliness of the map's measurement scheme (one inch=approximately, etc . . .)

is it possible for each of us to look at this and NOT personalize it in some fashion? novels have been written on less.

Oh, JeNNy is right! And I now notice that the bottom lock stops just a little above and left of the towns where I was born and grew up. Roman a clef--or, in this case, Roman a lock (whatever the word may be in French)?
