Clever, indeed, what you've done here, and I'm probably missing 2/3s of it. Do I see you have changed the color of the pick from blue to black in support of your theme (love that title)? And do I spy a tiny rock caught between the tines?
The owner of this comb would wake up every day and decide whether or not he should punch himself in the face, or comb his hair.....depending on his mood when he got up.
Now that's a new take on the traditional Black Power iconography! And there is indeed a tiny rock enmeshed. Oh, we could work on dissecting that metaphor, too. How these things fall right into our laps.
Milly, that is true--I never thought about it before, but the comb does look like something from under the waves & as if the fist were signalling from below.
Every day for a year I will post a new painting or drawing of treasures found during beach walks.
On June 26, 2010, South Street Gallery (located in Greenport, Long Island) will exhibit the entire body of work--all 365 pieces. There will be a preview showing the day before the opening. Please visit the gallery's website:

I like the black plastic objects, so like the mermaids purse. Although manmade this comb feels like it came from the sea.
