The ringmaster in the story used these sneaky smiley face firecrackers to lure kids into using them. How could anything be dangerous if it has a smiley face on it?
Sounds as if you have some--maybe too much--experience in such trickery. Perhaps you taught the ringmaster everything he needed to know?
