Today's is called "Tar Beach," for the pieces were not found at the water's edge but along the curb of Third Avenue in New York City. The experience was very similar to being on the shore, however, especially the sudden glimpse of unusual objects that revealed themselves to be ceramic, no less. The sidewalk was like the sand, the macadam the bay, & the curb edge the wrack line.
